Mick Phelan has been appointed to the position of sales and reservations manager at Intrepid Travel. Most recently a Latin America and adventure travel specialist at Goway, Phelan will be based in Intrepid’s Toronto office.

Encore CruiseEscapes

Encore CruiseEscapes has named Guylaine Michaud district sales manager for Quebec. Michaud has worked in the tourism industry for 20 years. She has an extensive background as a travel counsellor and has worked as a speaker, a trainer in several fields of expertise, and a tour leader. In 1999, she was awarded Master Cruise Counsellor. Jet Airways

Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, chief executive officer of Jet Airways, has resigned, effective Oct. 15, to rejoin his family in Europe. He will be joining British Midland PLC (bmi) as its chief executive officer, based in the UK. Prock-Schauer has been at the helm of Jet Airways since June 2003. Nikos Kardassis will take over as acting chief executive officer of the company. Kardassis, who was formerly the CEO of Jet Airways from 1994 to 1999, has a wealth of experience in both the aviation and financial services industries. He began his career with TWA holding various finance and operational positions. In the past 18 months, Kardassis has served as senior vice-president, The Americas for Jet Airways.

Transat Distribution Canada

With more than 25 years of industry experience, Kimberley Cotter is joining the Transat Distribution Canada team as regional director of operations and member services, for the western region. Cotter was most recently based in South Florida, working as American Express’ director responsible for Amex’s largest travel call centre service and driving new servicing platforms across the national cruise and tour portfolio. TICO

At a meeting following its annual general meeting at the Toronto Congress Centre on Sept. 24, TICO’s new board of directors named Jill Wykes, senior vice-president, Thomas Cook Canada, as TICO board chair. Mike Foster, president, Uniglobe Instant Travel, was named vice-chair. Wykes is one of CATO’s three representatives on the board of directors and Foster is one of ACTA’s three representatives. The appointments are for a one-year term.

Tourism Australia

Tourism Australia recently named Daryl Hudson as the new regional general manager, Americas for Tourism Australia. Hudson is currently Tourism Australia’s Canadian manager. Prior to joining Tourism Australia in August 2008, Hudson ran his own tourism marketing consultancy for 11 years primarily managing the marketing for Tasmania in the US and Canada. He also managed sales development projects in Australia, Fiji and Indonesia. Hudson also brings a solid background in the MICE market having spear-headed the international sales for the Sydney Convention & Visitors Bureau from 1990-94.

Intrepid Travel

Intrepid Travel’s business development manager for eastern North America is taking on a new territory. Kate Rosen will be assuming the role of business development manager for western North America, while Katie Olsson will be replacing her in the east. Rosen’s background includes roles as marketing and sales co-ordinator for West Trek Tours and BC sales rep for Hostelling International before joining Intrepid. Olsson’s experience includes working as an adventure specialist for Intrepid, and as an Intrepid tour leader in Morocco and Eastern Europe. Crystal Cruises

A new district sales manager for Canada is joining Crystal Cruises’ North American sales team. Jane Eastmure comes to Crystal with more than two decades of travel industry experience and will be managing the Canadian sales territory from her Toronto office. As the founder of Ascent Learning and Development, Eastmure has coached sales executives from numerous hospitality sales companies, including Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Delta Hotels and Convention Centres of Canada.

Jasper Destination Marketing Corporation

The Jasper Destination Marketing Corporation (JDMC) is appointing Maggie Davison to the role of chief executive officer. Davison comes to Jasper from her recent post as executive director of business development for the Canadian Tourism Commission based in Vancouver. Davison is now responsible for new business opportunities and building stronger brand awareness for Jasper as a year-round destination.

Tourism Fiji

Tourism Fiji is promoting Sera Cawanibuka, regional co-ordinator for its Matai Specialists Program, to the post of regional marketing officer, Americas. She will now be responsible for co-ordinating the destination’s trade and consumer marketing initiatives, developing niche markets, advancing its leads-generation program and maximizing marketing opportunities in Canada and other markets.

Goway Travel

Dale Scott has been appointed to the position of business development manager for British Columbia at Goway Travel.
