Berlin “city of the future”
2009-11-18
“It’s the city of the future that’s right in the heart of Europe,” says Hosch, president and CEO of the company that organizes congresses and trade shows, including the travel industry's ITB Berlin; as well as owns and operates the largest convention space in Europe, ICC Berlin.
Popular with young leisure travellers, Hosch says the city is the number one tourist destination in Germany, with the largest hotel capacity in the country at 679 hotels or 102,100 beds. While it’s been 20 years almost to the date since the fall of the Berlin Wall, Hosch says that tourists visiting as recently as four or five years ago might have trouble recognizing the city today. “If you’re coming back today, you’d wonder to yourself if it’s still the same city because so many places have changed!”
