As one of the global sponsors for the Paralympian athletes – fresh off a successful competition in Rio – Allianz Global Assistance brought a taste of Brazil to Toronto last night (Oct. 18) at Copa Cabana restaurant.

Along with cocktails and dinner, the evening featured special entertainment for the travel trade and partners in attendance.

“Allianz Global Assistance in Canada has travel agency and broker partners right across the country and this evening we’re here to celebrate them,” Karen Cullen, director of sales for Allianz Global Assistance told PressToday. “This is an opportunity for us to recognize our sponsorship as well as celebrate our partners, and just allow them to enjoy an evening of Brazilian hospitality and Allianz hospitality.”

Phil Hibbert, the new CEO Allianz Global Assistance in Canada, pictured above, says retail partners remain a core distribution channel for the company.

“The consumer still wants to have that verbal advice, that emotion and that transparency that sometimes you don’t get from an online experience,” he says.

In addition to being one of the highest yield products in terms of commission, Cullen says Allianz has launched a new six-week long campaign for agents to win Fitbit Flex Fitness Trackers.

“We definitely recognize that the travel agent has the first opportunity to protect their clients who are travelling outbound from Canada,” she says. “So it’s critical that they’re aware of the travel insurance as an opportunity and we certainly recognize that they are one of our most strategic and important partners.”
