Author Gabaldon New Avalon Godmother

Avalon-Diana-Nov19

Shortly after announcing that Canada’s own Jann Arden will be christening the Avalon Tranquility II next year, Avalon Waterways has announced yet another christening and celebrity godmother.

Acclaimed author of the award-winning No. 1 New York Times-bestselling OUTLANDER novels Diana Gabaldon will christen the Avalon Tapestry II, the first Avalon Suite Ship to be christened in France.

Of her godmother duties, Gabaldon commented, “I’ve been invited to do everything from leading parades to being installed as a Lady of the Quebec Garrison of the 78th Highlanders – but being godmother to a lovely ship will be a new and fabulous experience. I’m looking forward to new adventures – and doubtless good food – while exploring the history-lined rivers of Europe.”

Gabaldon will christen the Avalon Tapestry II in an international ceremony that will take place on March 24, 2015 in Les Andelys, France.

“We are so happy to have such talented godmothers for these ships,” says Stéphanie Bishop of Avalon’s Canadian office. “Ms. Gabaldon is an astonishing storyteller who mingles history with imagination and who also inspires us all to travel.”

In the OUTLANDER books – now a popular television series – Gabaldon brings to life 18th century Scotland as well as dozens of other settings, including Paris and the French port of Le Havre, two destinations featured on the christening cruise aboard the Avalon Tapestry II.

After the christening ceremony, the 110-metre, 128-passenger Avalon Tapestry II will welcome travellers aboard for such popular itineraries as Paris to Normandy’s Landing Beaches and Grand France.
