Thai Cultural Events Come West

WEST-thailand-Aug22

A schedule of events in western Canada celebrating the culture of Thailand was recently previewed by Thailand’s new consul general in Vancouver, Sutthiluck Sa-ngarmangkang.

She did so with a presentation of Thai traditional dancing, modern fashion and cuisine at the Thailand consultate in YVR, in support of the upcoming events.

The Discovering Thailand show will take place at the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre on Aug. 22, Victoria’s Belfry Theatre on Aug. 25 and the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton on Aug. 28.

Guests will see traditional dances by a dance troupe from Bangkok and Muay Thai boxing matches by two champions of the sport from the Southeast Asian Games. Tickets are available for $20 from vtixonline.com.

But Thai cultural entertainment is free at the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza on Aug. 23 and 24, as part of the Discovering Thailand Festival, including dances, fashion, cuisine and more Thai boxing. It’s all part of an effort to showcase Thailand’s rich cultural heritage and promote its many travel attractions.
