VIP Experience Available for 2020 Passion Play
Every decade, the picturesque town of Oberammergau re-enacts the Passion of Christ – better known as the Passion Play – in honour of an age-old promise. This world-famous performance is carried out by more than 1,500 villagers and involves years of planning and preparation.
In 2020, Insight Vacations guests have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience this unforgettable event while on select escorted journeys through Germany or Italy.

Located 60 miles from Munich, Oberammergau, surrounded by mountains and meadows, carries an age-old tradition dating back to 1634 during the time of the plague. The villagers pledged to perform the ‘Play of the Suffering, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ’ every 10 years, if spared from the same fate that plighted so many others. In accordance with a special law, all participants, including actors and choir members, must have been born in Oberammergau or have lived there for at least 20 years.
The first performance will take place in May 2020, running until October 2020, and will be performed five days a week in an open-air theatre that seats about 4,700 people.
