Fun Fall Things To Do In Cape Cod & The Islands
Internationally acclaimed beaches, local whale watching is the finest in the world. Cape Cod has it all; rich Pilgrim history and incredible natural beauty. Hiking trails, and cranberry bogs. The Cape and Islands’ mild yet interesting climate provide a paradise for golfers, naturalists, and birdwatchers. The region has long been recognized for its artistic significance and its historic towns are still a haven for artists, fine theatre and museums.
All Activities
What to do? It is impossible to be bored on the Cape & Islands! If you’re an active traveler, we have hiking, biking, or paddleboards, kayaks, boats and surfboards to rent. Interested in marine life? Take in a whale or seal watch – we have the finest in the world! Golf at one of our over 50 courses and enjoy our extended warm weather. Take a drive down one of our main streets and visit our world-class shops and galleries, or catch a show or exhibit at one of our many museums and theaters.
Artists and Galleries
With hundreds of artists and galleries spanning the peninsula, Cape Cod is truly a great destination for art. Visit the many artist-studios and galleries to find work that reflects and honors the Cape’s storied artistic heritage (Provincetown is famously America’s oldest active art colony) alongside contemporary pieces that continue and re-envision this historic exploration in dynamic new ways.
Cycling
Cycling enthusiasts flock to the region for our extensive network of on and off-road trails, including the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Join a guide or set out on your own to roam miles of paved bikeways, mountain bike trails and country roads that wind past historic lighthouses, working cranberry bogs, and weathered shingled cottages. Bike shops, shuttles, and rentals are available across the region!
Don’t Overlook Central Mass!

Especially for the drive market from Eastern Canada, Central Massachusetts is a hidden gem, full of art & culture, unique family fun, and gorgeous natural vistas. Here in the heart of Massachusetts, you can go to “sugar camp” at Old Sturbridge Village’s living history museum; explore everything from treetops to the solar system at the totally unique indoor-outdoor museum, the Ecotarium; and take on Wachusett Mountain on skis in the winter, and in hiking boots the rest of the year. While in Central Mass, don’t miss out on the burgeoning culinary scene, memorable art, or rockin’ live music venues of Worcester, New England’s third largest city.
A Norman Rockwell Christmas

The town of Stockbridge, located in The Berkshires of Western Mass, was made famous by Norman Rockwell’s painting of the village during the holidays, becomes a magical New England setting decorated with holiday wreaths and festive lights, as the town celebrates the 26th anniversary Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas December 4, 5 & 6, 2015. The holiday celebration offers a full range of activities, with highlights including holiday readings, house tours, caroling, and a holiday concert.

Capping off the weekend is a recreation on Sunday of the scene depicted in Main Street at Christmas, complete with vintage automobiles parked in the spots occupied in the painting. The day’s activities include horse drawn rides, a visit from Santa, Roger the Jester, lunch at the Christmas Food Booth and much more. The festivities celebrate Rockwell’s popular depiction of what for many is the quintessential small New England Town, with all the longing for a simpler time that it represents. Rockwell began painting the popular image in 1956, but did not complete it until December 1967.

The image and character of Stockbridge has changed little over the years, thanks to the great care and affection of its residents, and it is that special ambience which draws so many.
