WestJet Goes To Bat For Montreal

Westjet-March14

Spring training has begun just in time for WestJet to announce a one-year sponsorship agreement with the Montreal Baseball Project.

The goal of the Montreal Baseball Project is to bring Major League Baseball back to Montreal. WestJet, with a proud history of supporting the Toronto Blue Jays, will support a gala event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 1994 Montreal Expos team, in addition to corporate sponsorship of a two-game exhibition series between the New York Mets and the Toronto Blue Jays taking place in Montreal on March 28 and 29 at Olympic Stadium.

Both activities are part of a larger movement to bring the boys of summer back to the city where Canadian professional baseball was born.

“Our mission is to enrich the lives of everyone in WestJet’s world,” said Richard Bartrem, vice-president, Communications and Community Relations. “Montreal boasts a rich history of baseball, from the Montreal Royals to the Montreal Expos, and the people of the city want to once again experience the excitement of the game with their families and friends. We are pleased to support the Montreal Baseball Project and hope to see the game return to that great city in the future.”

With a metropolitan area population of nearly four million people, Montreal is currently the largest North American city without a baseball franchise. The Expos played their final game on Oct. 3, 2004, at Shea Stadium in New York.
