Something Special In The Air

Delta-Toronto-trio

These are heady days for Delta Hotels & Resorts as the icon Canadian hotel group hosted the official grand opening of its flagship property in Canada – the Delta Toronto. And in the next 30 days or so, the definitive deal that Marriott International signed to acquire Delta Hotels & Resorts should be completed.

Not surprisingly, the grand opening of the Delta Toronto was a gala affair, featuring both Toronto Mayor, John Tory and Marriott International Inc.’s president and CEO, Arne Sorenson.

Mayor Tory said that the opening of the Delta Toronto was a great addition to the city’s SouthCore district and the combination of two great brands – like Delta and Marriott – was a positive development and a great investment. And the Mayor congratulated all involved for the investment in Toronto.

Ken Greene, president and CEO of Delta Hotels & Resorts, described the event as a wonderful celebration of a unique hotel in a unique neighbourhood. And he observed that in the last two years, the iconic Canadian hotel brand had solidified its leading position in the 4-star market and was now attracting new customers that “we never had before.”

And he added that over the years, Delta Hotels & Resorts has been recognized in many different ways, but there is no better way of being recognized than its soon to be completed acquisition by Marriott International, which will add value to every aspect of Delta’s operations.

Marriott’s president and CEO, Arne Sorenson observed at the grand opening event that he had never spoken at a hotel opening of a hotel that “is not part of our system,” before adding that “it is a stunning hotel.”

Sorenson said that the opening of a new hotel markets the beginning of the creation of new memories for both the staff and the customers and he said that he is “eagerly anticipating” the completion of the agreement that will see Marriott acquire Delta as it is a brand that Marriott has admired for many years.

Marriott’s president and CEO also noted that he sees lots of opportunities in the Canadian market – a market that Marriott is committed to – so the future is bright.
