Absolutely Amazing!
Oh My Great Britain!
That appears to be the sentiment of Canadian travellers who help fuel the record number of overseas visitors who travelled to Britain during the first three quarters of 2016.
The rise in visitors was also the result of the benefits of the drop in the exchange rate and improved value for money, not to mention the fact that Britain rolled out the welcome mat as part of its global #OMGB Home of Amazing Moments marketing campaign.
Tourism officials are also predicted a strong finish for the final quarter of 2016.
By the numbers, Canadians spent a record £505 million, up 24% with visits up 12% to 643,000 from January to September 2016.
When considering inbound visits overall to the UK there were a record-breaking 28.1 million visits from January to September 2016, up 2% on the previous year.
Strong growth was also seen in visits and spend from the US, with spending up 9% to a record £2.5 billion and visits up 3% to 2.7 million.
Paul Gauger, interim executive vice-president, The Americas for VisitBritain , commented:
“These strong numbers show how much Canadians enjoy exploring the culture, heritage, cities and countryside of Britain. And with the current exchange rate, Canadians see value for money. It’s a great time to visit the UK, and enjoy the benefits of how much further your dollar can take you.”
