Beat The Blues In Myrtle Beach

Who says there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues when those blues are brought on by fall’s approach?

Diane Charno, director of marketing for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, says her South Carolina destination will again be offering its 60 More Days of Summer promotion in September and October, providing summer vacation options in a part of the world where September and October remain warm.

The promotion features a number of incentives for those vacationing in the seaside destination, including reduced hotel rates.

Summer is the peak season in a family oriented part of the world that sees noticeably fewer visitors after school restarts.

“It’s a a very affordable time,” Charno said during a Monday Toronto visit. “It’s a much slower time of year.”

Visitors can still expect to find temperatures in the upper 20s during September and October.

The number 60 features prominently in Myrtle Beach promotions, with the destination being on what’s labeled the Grand Strand, 60 miles of uninterrupted beach.

Myrtle Beach is also promoting “60 ways to wellness,” which invites people to relax and unwind, and another destination brainstorm is 60 Best Bites, a culinary celebration involving local restaurants.

Golf plays a major role in Myrtle Beach’s tourism trade, with the sport offered year-round on nearly 100 courses, most of them open to the public.

Charno added visitors will also find varied entertainment, including dinner theatre.

But she said the destination’s biggest draw is its long beach.

Meanwhile, tourism officials note that both WestJet and Porter offer seasonal Toronto-Myrtle Beach service and WestJet Vacations and Porter Escapes have Myrtle Beach vacation packages.
