TOURISM IRELAND WELCOMES ROUGE NEWS
Tourism Ireland welcomes today's announcement that Air Canada will convert its current seasonal service between Toronto and Dublin to a year-round service, beginning May 1, 2014, operated by its new leisure carrier Air Canada rouge. The announcement provides a continued boost for both leisure and business tourism from Canada to the island of Ireland as recent figures show an increase of 4% in 2012, with close to 120,000 Canadians visiting the Island of Ireland. Air Canada says that its current seasonal service between Toronto and Dublin, Ireland will be converted to year-round service operated by its new leisure carrier, Air Canada rouge, beginning in 2014. AC will operate the route this year from May 17 through to Sept. 30, 2013 and then Air Canada rouge will commence year-round service starting May 1, 2014. Lufthansa is advising that the majority of its European and domestic German flights will be cancelled today (April 22) due to strike actions by the German trade union ver.di Long-haul flights to/from/via Frankfurt and Munich will be only partly affected. Air Canada has released preliminary results for the first quarter of 2013 which sees the carrier posting an adjusted net loss of approximately $143 million compared to an adjusted net loss of $162 million in the first quarter of 2012. Air Tahiti Nui and Air France have filed documents with the U.S. Department of Transportation seeking approval of and antitrust immunity for alliance agreements, including a bilateral joint-venture agreement.
