VIKING ORDERS MORE RIVER SHIPS
Amid record levels of consumer interest in river cruising, Viking Cruises has increased its order for additional Viking Longships, bringing the total number of new ships launching in 2014 from 12 to 14 vessels. By the end of 2014, Viking will have introduced a total of 30 new ships in a three-year period, which, according to officials, is the most rapid fleet expansion program the cruise industry has ever seen. WINDSTAR TO RENOVATE STATEROOMS
Windstar Cruises is continuing to evolve its fleet with a US$3 million investment of stateroom upgrades scheduled for Wind Star and Wind Spirit, the two smallest sister yachts of the fleet. Wind Star’s 72 guest staterooms will be renovated in a dry dock this November, while Wind Spirit is scheduled to have its 73 staterooms completed in April of 2015. Carnival Corporation & plc has received the support of Transport Canada, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Coast Guard to implement a significant advancement in environmental technology designed to reduce air emissions from cruise ships and large marine vessels.
