Celebrated Royal York Set To Mark New Chapter

This year, Fairmont Royal York will celebrate its 90th anniversary, highlighted by “a majestic transformation, honouring the icon’s timeless grandeur while elevating it into a new era of luxury.”

In the final phase of a multi-year renovation, the highly anticipated reveal will include a transformed arrival and check-in experience, newly imagined dining venues, contemporary event and meeting spaces, and a completely redefined Fairmont Gold.

The grand renovation will be completed this summer, in time for the Toronto landmark’s official anniversary celebration.

“Fairmont Royal York has always been a defining feature of the Toronto skyline and we are excited to announce the next stage in its time-honoured history,” said Edwin Frizzell, regional

vice-president and general manager, Fairmont Royal York. “As we celebrate 90 years of outstanding service, incredible people and history-making moments, it is with great pride that we prepare to unveil the most significant transformation this building has ever seen. A grand scale renovation that both modernizes the property and stays true to our past, this project is a reflection of our storied history and a look into our exciting future. We are certain that the

changes planned for the hotel will capture Toronto’s bold new energy and we look forward to debuting our extraordinary transformation over the course of 2019.”

Led by global design firm Rockwell Group, the concept behind the lobby and arrival experience is inspired by a journey from Toronto’s past through its present. The design embraces and preserves the building’s grand character and heritage, while creating a contemporary, modern escape that feels timeless. Given the hotel’s connection to the railway and Toronto’s Union Station, material, form and detail cues were inspired by the aesthetics of train cars and railroads. Rockwell Group created what will be a true “living room” for the city, with a larger, more generous reception area lined with marble stairs and a sweeping ramp that guides guests to check-in stations inspired by train ticketing counters.

At the heart of the hotel’s metamorphosis will be an elevated food and beverage experience, as Fairmont Royal York prepares to debut four new signature dining concepts.

“Over the next few months, we cannot wait to unveil the exceptional cuisine and share the vision behind what will be among the city’s hottest culinary destinations,” said jW Foster, executive chef, Fairmont Royal York. “Guests can expect a bold, modern and authentic essence in the new menus, capturing the next level of dining in Toronto while still honouring the hotel’s rich food history and renowned service.”

Fairmont Royal York’s new Fairmont Gold offering is inspired by the hotel’s celebrated history of luxurious accommodation and the personalized, premium services sought after by today’s elite travellers.

Fairmont Royal York’s crowning moment in its grand transformation will be the unveiling of two new Legacy Suites, “incorporating downtown Toronto’s cosmopolitan grandeur with sophisticated, residential-style living.”

The hotel’s meeting, event and wedding spaces will also receive a revamp to reflect a more modern style and highlight the property’s exquisite historical features.
