Destination Canada has signed a new co-operative agreement with the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC), effective Aug. 1.

Under the agreement, key industry opportunities that bring Canada’s tourism sector together for business purposes, including the Tourism Congress, Rendez-vous Canada, GoMedia Canada and Tourism Town Halls, will be co-managed by the two organizations. While the two organizations have worked alongside each other for many years, the new agreement creates a more commercially relevant and efficient platform to meet the needs of industry.

“Destination Canada and TIAC are long-time partners. Both organizations exist to support a strong and vibrant tourism sector across Canada. Both organizations have unique roles and areas of specialty. This new co-operative agreement allows each to focus on its core roles and responsibilities with the ultimate goal of helping tourism businesses succeed and grow,” says Jon Mamela, Destination Canada senior vice-president marketing strategy/chief marketing officer.

TIAC president Charlotte Bell added, “This new agreement allows TIAC and Destination Canada to align their complementary mandates to develop and deliver a series of industry engagement events with a goal to build capacity, increase export readiness and strengthen the global competitiveness of the tens of thousands of small- and medium-sized businesses that comprise Canada’s travel and tourism industry.”

The partnership commences Aug. 1 and runs to Dec. 31, 2016, with options to renew.
