The Southwest Airlines Pilots’ Association (SWAPA) and the NetJets Association of Shared Aircraft Pilots (NJASAP) are calling on President Donald J. Trump and newly confirmed Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao to move quickly to reverse the decision to grant Norwegian Air International a foreign air carrier permit.

SWAPA and NJASAP say that decision poses a direct violation to the U.S.-EU Open Skies Agreement.
SWAPA President Capt. Jon Weaks said: “This decision is just another failed trade deal by the Obama administration — one that gives foreign companies an unfair advantage over U.S. companies. Only President Trump has the power to reverse the lame duck Obama Administration?s reckless approval of NAI.”

NJASAP president, Pedro Leroux commented: “Our unions view the DOT’s decision to give foreign interests a foothold in the domestic marketplace as the most sinister threat to the viability and safety of the aviation industry of the modern era. Absent immediate intervention from President Trump or Secretary Chao, it is difficult to determine how disastrous the Obama administration?s decision will prove for the flying public and aviation workers.”
