Flair marks first flight to Guadalajara from YVR

The vacation potential of an attractive colonial city in central Mexico is now being tested, with the recent launch of non-stop flights to Guadalajara from Vancouver on ultra low-cost carrier, Flair Airlines.

The inaugural flight lifted off from YVR on May 31, taking just over five hours to reach Guadalajara. The city is located about five hours by road inland from the Pacific Coast resort city of Puerto Vallarta. Guadalajara (GDL) is the capital of the state of Jalisco.

“When we announced the route, we were positively overwhelmed at the great responses from Canadians and Mexicans alike with deep ties to and from Guadalajara, Vancouver and Toronto,” said Flair Airlines’ chief commercial officer, Garth Lund. “This expansion demonstrates our agility and commitment to connecting communities and evolving alongside the travel needs of our passengers.”

About the new flights

The new schedule of Flair flights will operate two days per week, on Mondays and Fridays. The schedule will be in place on a year-round basis. Flair will also start non-stop flights from Toronto International Airport (YYZ) to Guadalajara, beginning on Sept. 13, 2024 and operating three days per week.

“The new connection with Vancouver represents a great opportunity for the tourism sector,” said Vanessa Perez Lamas, the secretary of tourism for Jalisco. “Jalisco received almost 500,000 Canadian visitors last year, making Canada the second most important international market for Jalisco. We definitely expect this market to grow with this new route.”

Guadalajara is a bustling cultural destination, known for tequila and mariachi music, which were both born in the state of Jalisco.

Guadalajara’s historic centre is highlighted by colonial plazas and landmarks such as the neoclassical Teatro Degollado and the regal twin-spired Guadalajara Cathedral.
