Industry Shows Its Heart At TravelBrands Golf Classic

The travel industry certainly showed it has heart as it turned out in full force to support the SickKids Foundation at TravelBrands 7th Annual Charity Golf Classic.

After a two-year pause, the tournament was back, raising $283,515 for the Labatt Family Heart Centre at The Hospital for Sick Children.

Held at Eagles Nest Golf Club on Sept. 8, the event saw a sizeable cheque presented to a SickKids representative and SickKids patient alumni at the end of the evening. This cheque symbolizes hope for the heartbreaking battles that so many children and families are facing.

Frank DeMarinis, CEO, TravelBrands, said that: “Getting the chance to do this again after a two-year pause was truly extraordinary. As a recognized SickKids Foundation Catalyst Donor, we have raised over $1.8 million dollars for SickKids to date, with a focus on their cardiac department to help improve and save so many lives.”

DeMarinis continued: “I want to thank all of our incredible partners, colleagues, staff, and travel industry friends who came together to make this happen. This is just the beginning as we commit to raising another 1.5 million to bring our total to over $3 million for SickKids Foundation.”

Participants enjoyed perfect weather over the course of the day while also getting to take part in a putting contest, a beat the executive challenge, an oyster bar, an ice cream truck, and of course, the event’s signature helicopter ball drop.

The day concluded with dinner, both a silent and live auction, and touching words from SickKids Alumni David Maggiori, who received a standing ovation.

TravelBrands runs several giving campaigns for the SickKids Foundation throughout the year, including an employee 5-kilometre walk and SickKids Day, where 1% of all sales are donated.
