UPDATED: National Hurricane Center offers update on Tropical Storm Melissa’s track

In an advisory from the National Hurricane Center, the NHC says that due to Tropical Storm Melissa’s slow motion, there’s the risk of a prolonged multi-day period of potentially damaging winds, heavy rainfall resulting in life-threatening flash flooding and numerous landslides and storm surge that continues to increase for Jamaica.

The NHC is advising that preparation to protect life and property should be rushed to completion, since strong winds and flooding rains could begin in Jamaica later today (Friday, Oct. 24) or on Saturday (Oct. 25).

For Haiti, the NHC is  also warning of heavy rainfall that will result in catastrophic flash flooding and landslides across southwestern Haiti by this weekend.

For the remainder of Hispaniola and Eastern Cuba, the NHC says there will be heavy rainfall that could produce significant life-threatening flash flooding and numerous landslides in the southern Dominican Republic.
