One Love – One Bermuda Mission lands in Jamaica

The One Love Bermuda Relief Effort touched down at Norman Manley International Airport earlier this week, marking a proud and heartfelt milestone in Bermuda’s humanitarian response to support Jamaica following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

The BermudAir flight 2T903 carried a massive consignment of more than 4,000 lbs of disaster relief supplies collected through the overwhelming generosity of the Bermudian people.

Donations poured in at the Hamilton Seventh-day Adventist Centre on King Street, where community volunteers worked tirelessly to organize, sort, and prepare shipments. The volume of giving was so great that the facility was filled twice over before the aircraft departed — a true testament to Bermuda’s compassion and unity of spirit.

Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly welcomed by representatives of the Jamaican Government and civil society, including:

  • Karl Bowen, Group Leader
  • Dr. Bevon Morrison, President, CALL Foundation for Environmental and      Sustainable Development
  • Sherone Montgomery, Secretary, CALL Foundation
  • Kevin Smith, G.E.T. Ltd Bermuda

These officials extended their appreciation to Bermuda for its generosity and solidarity during Jamaica’s time of recovery.

Special acknowledgment is extended to BermudAir’s flight crew and operations team for their professionalism, care, and coordination throughout this mission.

Adam Scott, Founder & CEO of BermudAir, said that: “From the moment this idea took flight, our team understood it was about more than logistics — it was about love and humanity. We are deeply honoured to have played our part in connecting Bermuda’s compassion with Jamaica’s resilience.”

The One Love Bermuda Relief Effort also expressed its sincere gratitude to HM Customs Bermuda, Security Associates, Menzies Bermuda and Jamaica, the truckers, and the hundreds of volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to pack, transport, and prepare the shipment.

The response from Bermuda’s corporate community has been extraordinary, demonstrating unity of purpose and a shared commitment to helping those in need.

In a touching gesture, Bermudian schoolchildren wrote dozens of letters to students and families in Jamaica. These heartfelt messages were handed over to Jamaican officials for delivery to affected schools, reinforcing the emotional connection between the two island nations.

During the trip, one Bermudian who had been stranded in Jamaica due to the storm was able to return home safely — another reminder of the mission’s personal impact.

As planning begins for Phase Two, efforts are now underway to secure a cargo jet and shipping containers to continue transporting aid from Bermuda to Jamaica.

Relief items in Jamaica will be distributed through Food For The Poor Jamaica, the nation’s largest charitable organization, which has been serving vulnerable communities since 1983.

Dwayne A. Caines JP, representative of the One Love Bermuda Relief Effort, said: “What began as a simple call to help has grown into something extraordinary. Bermuda has shown the world what unity and compassion look like in action. I thank every person, company, and volunteer who gave, packed, or prayed — this is what One Love truly means.”

The One Love Bermuda Relief Effort extends its deepest thanks to all partners and supporters as preparations advance for the next phase of assistance.
