Operators implement flexible rebooking options for Cuba

Both Transat and Air Canada Vacations have introduced flexible rebooking policies as a result of the ongoing power outages and hotel closures in Cuba.
And this morning, the Cuban government has told international airlines that they would no longer be able refuel on the island due to those fuel shortages.
In a message to travel advisors from Transat’s commercial team, advised that: “For any travel file with an arrival date between Feb. 7 and April 30, 2026, at a hotel affected by a temporary closure, travellers may change the date, hotel or destination without penalty.”
It also said that: “For individual bookings, the travel agency must submit a request for cancellation with the issuance of a travel credit. This credit will be generated within 48 hours and once the credit [is] issued, travellers will then be able to book their new vacation for the date and destination of their choice. The credit will remain valid for one year from the original return date.”
Transat, noting that there could be adjustments to it, included a list of the closed hotels, which included:
SNU (Cayo Santa Maria)
Valentin Perla Blanca
Sol Cayo Santa Maria
Melia Buenavista
CCC (Cayo Coco)
Iberostar Playa Pilar
Gran Muthu Imperial Cayo Guillermo
Iberostar Origin Daiquiri
Tryp Cayo Coco
Hotel Mojito
VRA (Varadero)
Hotel El Patriarca
HOG (Holguin)
Gran Muthu Ensenada
Transat’s message to agents continued: “For clients affected by these closures who prefer to postpone their trip, Transat is offering the following flexibility, provided the request is made prior to departure and at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
- If the booking is for one of the properties listed above with a departure scheduled between February 7 and April 30, 2026, inclusive, the trip may be cancelled at no charge and a travel credit will be issued within 48 hours.
- This credit will be valid for one year from the originally scheduled return date and may be applied to any Transat product.
To take advantage of this option, please complete the following form: https://www.airtransat.com/flexibility-cuba
And it emphasized that: “Under no circumstances should the file be cancelled. The requests will be reviewed and files adjusted as needed by our teams according to the applicable conditions.”
