Qatar ready for 7M tourists by 2030 thanks to ambitious growth plans

Baxter Media has joined partners from around the globe to take part in an exclusive media FAM to Qatar as the nation plans to showcase what visitors can expect in 2024.

Hosted by Discover Qatar (Qatar Airways DMC) and Qatar Tourism, the FAM, taking place from Feb. 8 to Feb. 12 in Doha, aims to highlight some of the exciting sporting events that will attract visitors on a global scale.

As the world sets its sights on Qatar, the momentum from events like the FIFA World Cup and the Formula 1 races has propelled this destination into the global spotlight.

The legacy of the World Cup extends far beyond the confines of the stadium, with Qatar’s visionary National Tourism Sector Strategy 2030 poised to transform the landscape of tourism in the region.

A new era of tourism

In January 2024, Qatar welcomed 702,800 international visitors, setting a record high for January arrivals.

“With ambitious plans to diversify its tourism offerings and enhance infrastructure, Qatar aims to attract seven million visitors annually by 2030, signalling a new era of growth and opportunity for the country’s burgeoning tourism industry,” said His Excellency, Saad Bin Ali Al Kharji, Chairman of Qatar Tourism.

Qatar has much to look forward to in 2024, as do travellers. The 2024 World Aquatics championships, APT TotalEnergies Open(Tennis), AFC Asian Cup as well as the Qatar Grand Prix all build upon the legacy of the 2022 World Cup. All of these events have further cemented the country’s reputation as a premier destination for sports enthusiasts.

The country’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship remains strong. With initiatives such as the Qatar National Vision 2030, which seeks to balance economic growth with environmental preservation, Qatar is poised to emerge as a global leader in sustainable tourism, offering visitors a glimpse into a future where conservation and progress coexist harmoniously.
