Sandy grounds flights around the world

Hurricane Sandy has left millions in the US northeast without power and has grounded thousands of flights in its aftermath. Delays and cancellations are expected to continue throughout the day and possibly tomorrow. New York’s three major airports remain closed. Agents and travellers are advised to check with their airlines before heading to the airport. Flight disruptions spread around the world, affecting travellers as far away as Europe and Asia. Just before coming ashore in the US last night, Sandy was stripped of hurricane status, but remained a large and dangerous storm with hurricane-force winds and heavy rain. At least 17 people in seven states were killed.
