SPOTLIGHT ON HOMEGROWN MAUI CUISINE

Celebrated as Maui’s favourite Labour Day weekend culinary experience, the second annual Kāanapali Fresh 2013 brings farmers, chefs, winemakers and the community to Kāanapali Beach Resort Aug. 30 and 31 for a celebration focused on flavourful, fresh Maui food prepared by talented Kāanapali chefs. For instance, the Saturday gala dinner will feature 24 locally sourced dishes prepared by 12 chefs. Some highlights will be Keawe Smoked Hawaii Ranchers Beef Brisket, Island Style Shrimp Chow Fun, Ho’opono Farms Vegetables, Iwamoto Ramen Medley and lots more.

Maui’s food comes from a growing number of farms in Kāanapali, Hāna and Maui’s prime agricultural district of Kula. Maui’s farmers and food producers come to Whalers Village Fine Shops & Restaurants for a “Grown on Maui” Farmers’ Market on Aug. 31. (http:// kaanapalifresh.com)
