“The worst has passed”: JTB’s Bennett calls on industry for support

“The worst has passed and now we unite and we build Jamaica,” reported Angella Bennett, regional director for Canada at the Jamaica Tourist Board last night as the destination looks to rebound from the devastating damage of Hurricane Melissa.

Rallying the industry and friends of Jamaica to come together in support of recovery efforts, Bennett shared that the government of Jamaica has created a website for Hurricane Melissa relief: https://supportjamaica.gov.jm/.

Notably, Bennett shared that Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport reopened yesterday (Oct. 29)  for relief flights and today (Oct. 30) for commercial flights, while Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay is still assessing damage but will be opened for relief flights only. There is no estimated reopening date for commercial flights at this time.

More updates will come from the Tourism Emergency Operations Centre.
