TIABC applauds Destination BC initiative
The Tourism Industry Association of BC (TIABC), the voice of the tourism industry in British Columbia, applauded Premier Christy Clark’s announcement of a new provincial tourism marketing organization: Destination BC. The announcement occurred during Host 2012, the province’s largest gathering of tourism and hospitality leaders. “This is great news and is a huge step forward for tourism in this province,”said Lana Denoni, TIABC board chair. “This has been — and continues to be — a priority issue for the tourism industry in this province, and we are very pleased that the new organization will be business-led, fully accountable to industry and tax-payers, with formula investments.”Dave Butler, chair of TIABC’s Provincial Destination Marketing Organization Task Force, reinforced Denoni’s support of the announcement. “Our nine-person industry Task Force has been working directly with Minister Pat Bell for the last 15 months to find the optimum model, and we’re all very pleased to see this come to fruition. With the creation of Destination BC today, we are now able to take tourism marketing in this province to a whole new level. It’s an exciting day for all of us in tourism.”(http://www.tiabc.ca)
