TICO Conviction

Francisco (Frank) Cardona plead guilty to and was convicted of one count of operating as a travel agent without registration, contrary to the Travel Industry Act.

On Jan. 25, he was sentenced to a fine of $10,000; restitution totalling $4,060; and one year of probation.

In addition, Cardona is required to: prior to accepting a job in the travel industry, inform his prospective employer, in writing, of his conviction under the Travel Industry Act, 2002; and, prior to accepting a job in the travel industry, inform the Registrar, Travel Industry Act, 2002, in writing, of the position being offered, the name of the travel agent and the term of employment and shall provide proof of having informed the prospective employer of his conviction.

Cardona paid $1,500 in restitution payments prior to being sentenced.

Cardona was also convicted criminally on Jan. 10 of one count of fraud over $5,000. Sentencing in the criminal matter will be conducted at a later date.

Cardona operated in Toronto and was previously an outside sales representative for Tri World Travel, convicted in September 2017 in relation to actions when Cardona was their outside sales representative.
