Utah Calls In the Big Guns

Utah called in the big guns to bring its message of tourism diversity and investment potential to Canada last night as a government sales mission featuring governor Gary Hebert welcomed guests at the St. Andrews Club in downtown Toronto. Hebert noted that tourism to the state is growing at an 11% pace and that Canada is the top international market – producing a quarter of all visitors and contributing $319 million annually to state coffers — “which we appreciate,” he said. Tourism has helped re-invigorate the state’s economy after the recession to the point that a new travel marketing fund has been introduced to help the state promote itself abroad. Based on its “Mighty Five” national parks, world-class skiing with the “greatest snow on earth,” and cosmopolitan but “wholesome” capital, Salt Lake City, Utah has something for everyone, said Hebert. Significant lift from Canada, including Toronto flights by Delta and Air Canada go a long way to making the state accessible, he added.
