Change Of Date For Tianguis 2021

Make a note in your calendar, the dates for Tianguis Turístico México 2021 are being changed to Nov. 16 to Nov. 19.

The change was announced by Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués and the Governor of Yucatán, Mauricio Vila Dosal, who indicated that the change was made following a review of the announced dates and with the show’s success in mind.

It also follows the suggestions and requests of several organizations from the private sector and the international tourism industry, indicating that a date change would make their presence more feasible at the show, which is being held in Mérida, Yucatán.

Originally, the annual event was scheduled for Nov. 21 to Nov. 24.

“After analyzing the requests of wholesale agencies, hosted buyers and international buyers, especially from the United States, and in order to have the best edition of Tianguis Turístico Mexico, the Ministry of Tourism and the Government of Yucatan have decided to have the event a few days earlier than previously announced, which is the most important in terms of tourism in Latin America.” they said.

New dates will allow for antigen testing, vaccinations and the latest bio-sanitary measures to be followed.

Torruco Marqués said the world is now experiencing a more encouraging outlook, especially due to vaccinations against COVID-19, which are advancing daily.

He cited Spain as an example, where the Feria Internacional de Turismo was just held, and sent a very clear message to the world tourism sector that large events can now be held now when the biosanitary measures established by the competent authorities in the matter are respected.

“In the case of Mexico, the federal Ministry of Tourism and the government of Yucatán continue working to carry out the 45th edition of the Tianguis Turístico. This event had to be suspended in March 2020 and postponed to September of this year. However, both Governor Mauricio Vila, and I, have decided that this edition of Tianguis Turístico will take place from Nov. 21-24,” he said.

For his part, Vila Dosal said that the Tianguis Turístico will be a “successful, strategic, efficient event and in accordance with the latest trends that we all expect, but above all it will be the watershed of post-COVID-19 tourism recovery.”

“This is going to be a great moment for us, because it is going to provide us with a great opportunity to show all the great tourist attractions that Yucatán has and the new products that we are presenting,” said Vila Dosal.

Likewise, the governor indicated that an innovative Tianguis Turístico is being organized and different from what has been done before, also due to the current pandemic situation, so it will be carried out in biosafety conditions, following protocols and sanitary measures to take care of the health of the Yucatecans and those participating in the exhibition.

Marqués and Vila Dosal specified that they are working on logistics that allow the event to be free of coronavirus, implementing all the preventive measures and protocols recommended by the World Health Organization.

They stressed all attendees must undergo an antigen test, which if negative will allow access to the event.

The test will be linked to Tianguis badges and, if someone has not undergone testing or has a positive result, they will not be able to access the venue, or meetings related to Tianguis.

In addition, Tianguis participants will be informed about the measures being carried out during the event.

“The state of Yucatan will be ready to show itself as the great destination that it is, but also as that place where so many things have originated. This time, Yucatán will be the origin of a new era for tourism, the stage where our industry is reborn,” said Michelle Fridman Hirsch, tourism minister of the state of Yucatan.
