AQSC Launches Bahamas Relief Fund

American Queen Steamboat Company (AQSC) has set up a donation system on all of its riverboats to aid the Hurricane Dorian relief and recovery efforts in the Bahamas.

Additionally, AQSC is committed to contributing other supplies such as clean towels and linens, soaps and essentials to be loaded in Miami and sent to the islands via ships.

Guests and crew can easily contribute to the relief efforts by visiting the reception desk onboard to add Hurricane Dorian relief effort charges to their onboard accounts or contribute cash donations at the reception desk. All of the funds collected through the month of September will go directly towards the relief efforts. AQSC is working closely with All Hands and Hearts, a non-profit organization that addresses the immediate and long-term needs of communities impacted by natural disasters, in conjunction with the Government of the Bahamas.

According to the American Red Cross, Hurricane Dorian has affected some 76,000 people and according to preliminary damage reports, more than 13,000 houses are believed to have been damaged or destroyed – equivalent to about 45% of all dwellings on Abaco and Grand Bahama. With an infrastructure underwater and residents without shelter, Hurricane Dorian has had a catastrophic impact on the islands.

“The devastation that we’ve seen in the Bahamas is tragic,” shared American Queen Steamboat Company EVP, David William Kelly. “We are fully committed to aid in the recovery efforts and want the islands to know that we’re here to support the recovery and rebuilding of a special place that our team and guests know and love.”
