Making Sustainability Impossible To Resist

The benefits of hindsight were evident at a recent sustainable tourism conference in British Columbia, as speakers looked back on the tumultuous past two years-plus of COVID-19, and gave their views on the future, writes Western Editor, Ted Davis in the latest issue of Canadian Travel Press.

Given these perspectives, attendees at the recent IMPACT Sustainability Travel and Tourism Conference in Victoria could go home post-event with some assurance that there is light at the end of the current, challenging tunnel.

But there is also more darkness ahead, according to assessments by specialists who were presenters at the three-day event. Amongst those was keynote speaker Robert Sanford, who led off the conference with a host of new facts and forecasts, in his Climate Reality Check presentation.

Sanford, who is the Global Water Futures chair for the United Nations, set the tone with insightful observations about both perspectives. “Humanity responded to the threat of the Covid pandemic quickly and decisively,” said Sanford, noting that there was international cooperation on developing vaccines.
