Walt Judas to retire as CEO of TIABC

Longtime tourism industry supporter and leader Walt Judas has announced that he will be stepping down from his position as CEO of the Tourism Industry Association of BC.
Judas has been with the organization since May 2015, and since that time he has been a guiding voice in advocating for industry stakeholders in British Columbia’s tourism industry.
As CEO, he led multiple advocacy/policy files, set the strategic course for TIABC, built relationships with members and industry stakeholders and generally communicated the value of B.C.’s visitor economy, says a tribute by Destination British Columbia.
Before TIABC, Judas spent 15-plus years at Tourism Vancouver as VP of marketing communications, membership and sport. Prior to that, he held leadership positions at BC Pavco and Port Metro Vancouver.
He has also contributed his expertise to many boards, committees and advisory groups, including tourism program committees at Capilano University and Vancouver Community College.
“Walt is more than a seasoned tourism professional – he’s a cornerstone of this industry,” said Destination BC. “He leads with integrity, empathy and kindness.”
Judas says he is not sure exactly when he will step down. “I was targeting Dec. 31 but it depends on how soon TIABC’s board of directors hires my replacement,” noting that the search has officially started.
“I am committed to stay for as long as it takes to onboard the new CEO and help with the transition. I suspect that will be sometime in Q1, 2026.”
