Jamaica’s The Tryall Club reopens after Hurricane Melissa

Following its official reopening on Dec. 13, The Tryall Club, one of Jamaica’s most storied private luxury destinations, is welcoming guests after a dedicated recovery effort in the wake of Hurricane Melissa.

With more than 70% of villas fully operational and all core guest amenities open, the Club enters the heart of the winter season with renewed energy, resilience, and its signature sense of ease.

In the weeks following the storm, The Tryall Club undertook extensive inspections, cleaning, and repairs across its 2,200-acre estate. Today, guests will find a property that feels both familiar and freshly renewed:

  • Over 70% of villas are ready to welcome guests, with ongoing restoration in the remaining homes.
  • The Beach, Commissary, Restaurants, Tennis Complex & Pro Shop, Fitness Centre, Kids Club, and Livity Spa have all reopened.
  • The Golf Course is open with slight modifications to the 4th hole.
  • The Great House is undergoing restoration but will reopen at a later date.
  • Tropical regrowth is already flourishing across the property, underscoring the natural resilience of Jamaica’s lush landscape.

Kenton Jones, Managing Director of The Tryall Club, said that: “From the moment the hurricane passed, I was on the ground with our team checking in, listening, and working side by side to begin the recovery.”

Jones continued: “Reopening Tryall was never just about restoring buildings; it was about restoring a sense of home and continuity for our guests, our staff, and the wider community. The dedication and resilience I’ve seen from our team over the past weeks has been extraordinary, and we are incredibly proud to welcome our Tryall family back.”

High season will proceed as planned, including themed dinners and New Year’s Eve festivities, and the Club anticipates strong occupancy as many long-time guests return in support of the staff and broader community. Festive programming includes Christmas Reggae Night, New Year’s Eve Sparkling Soiree, Santa’s Arrival for kids, and more.

The Tryall Fund continues to mobilize resources for the surrounding community, providing food, water, emergency supplies, construction materials, and long-term recovery support. Guests wishing to contribute can donate via PayPal, check, or directly during their stay. One hundred percent of donations support local recovery.

The Tryall team is safe, though many in the surrounding community experienced significant damage. The Tryall Club has intensified training and sanitation protocols to Ministry of Health and Wellness standards, ensuring the highest level of safety across villas and public spaces.

Tryall’s water system, which is sourced and treated onsite, continues to meet Ministry standards and is tested daily. Guests will also have access to bottled water throughout the property.

On the healthcare front, The Tryall Club continues its partnership with Ambualert, offering on-site medical support, emergency response, international transfers if needed, and a full-time nurse station is now located near the tennis courts.

Sangster International Airport (MBJ) is fully operational, with cleared roads and normal transfer services available for arriving guests. The Jamaican government has prioritized tourism’s return, recognizing its vital role in community recovery.

Guests with existing or upcoming reservations are encouraged to contact the Club’s team for any updates or accommodation adjustments.
