Remembering George Papamoros

Well-known airline industry veteran, George Papamoros passed away in Niagara Falls, Canada on June 2, 2026 at the age of 81 surrounded by his family.

George Yanni Papamoros was born on October 30, 1944, in Acre, Palestine. In 1948, his family moved from Palestine to Beirut, Lebanon, where he spent his childhood.

Educated in both French and English schools, George developed a remarkable gift for languages. By adulthood, he was fluent in four languages, including Arabic and Greek, allowing him to connect with people from many different backgrounds.

Possessing both a sharp intellect and practical street smarts, he excelled in geography and history, subjects that reflected his curiosity about the world and its people.

At the age of 23, Papamoos married Gillian Mary Clark and in 1967 immigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada, before soon settling in Toronto.

The exploding airline industry was a natural fit and George began his Canadian career at CP Air, where his talent, dedication, and natural ability to connect with people quickly earned him advancement from reservations agent to Manager of Reservations.

George was recruited by Kuwait Airways. His success there led to his promotion to General Sales Manager for Canada, a position he held with distinction for more than fifteen years.

After his long and successful tenure with Kuwait Airways, he joined Air Mauritius, where he served as General Manager for North America. He took great pride in promoting the small but remarkable island nation and worked tirelessly to increase awareness of its culture, beauty, and opportunities.

He concluded his distinguished airline career with EgyptAir after Air Mauritius downsized its North American operations.

George’s love of travel, cultures and global connections naturally led him to a successful career in the airline industry and his accomplishments were not measured solely by titles or achievements, but by the countless lives he touched with his kindness, loyalty, generosity and genuine interest in others.
