Business travel demand takes the lead: A conversation with Hickory Global Partners’ Chris Dane

In the latest issue of Canadian Travel Press, Chris Dane, President & Managing Partner, Hickory Global Partners, talks about the latest business travel trends and offering a range of insights.

At one point in the conversation, Dane observed that: “The only thing I’d reinforce is that business travel demand is inextricably tied to the overall health of the economy. Historically, business travel demand leads the country into a recession and leads it back out.”

He told CTP that: “Inflation and oil prices have remained moderately restrained compared to past geopolitical events, when fuel was well over $100 a barrel and inflation ran significantly higher for much longer. That said, everything changes overnight if we enter a global recession. Demand comes to a screeching halt.”

Asked about Canada, Dane observed that: “The Canadian market looks strong both domestically and internationally, with the notable exception of travel to the U.S. and the Middle East, which is being affected by tariffs and conflicts.”
