Making history: Flair takes off with nonstop service from Canada to Guanajuato

A new connection between Canada and Mexico took flight today as Flair Airlines has added a new connection between Canada and Mexico with the launch of the first-ever nonstop service from Canada to Guanajuato International Airport (BJX).
The carrier’s inaugural flight departed Vancouver International Airport (YVR) over the weekend, giving Canadians direct access to the heart of Mexico’s Bajío region for the first time.
Len Corrado, CEO of Flair Airlines, said that: “Flair looks for opportunities to connect Canadians to places that haven’t been well served, and the Bajío is a great example.”
Corrado continued: “This route gives Canadians their first nonstop connection to an important region of Mexico, opening up León, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende and beyond. We’re making it easier and more affordable for Canadians to experience a different part of Mexico, while creating a new connection between the two countries.”
The new route takes travellers to the heart of one of Mexico’s most dynamic regions, known for its food, culture, history and colourful cities. Just over an hour from BJX is San Miguel de Allende, named the world’s best city by Travel + Leisure in 2026 for the third consecutive year.
Jessica Paola Olivo Moreno, director of the Guanajuato International Airport, said: “The launch of the first-ever flight connecting Guanajuato with Canada marks an important milestone for our airport and for the region’s international connectivity. This new route reflects the strength of the market and confirms that Guanajuato International Airport has the infrastructure and operational capacity to support its continued growth while delivering an outstanding passenger experience.”
And she added: “That commitment has been recognized by ACI for three consecutive years, naming Guanajuato the best airport in Latin America and the Caribbean in the category of two to five million passengers.”
Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, Governor of Guanajuato, said that: “This new connection between Vancouver and Guanajuato opens a new gateway connecting our people and our destinations.”
The Governor continued: “We want more Canadians to discover the heart of Mexico: a state rich in history, culture and extraordinary cuisine, and, above all, home to warm and welcoming people. Every new route means more visitors, more opportunities for our communities, and a stronger Guanajuato that is increasingly connected to the world,”
Russell Atkinson, Director, Air Service Development at Vancouver International Airport, said that: “Every new nonstop route makes YVR a stronger gateway for the communities we serve. As the first direct link between Canada and Mexico’s Bajío region, this service expands travel options for Western Canadians and strengthens connections for B.C.’s Mexican community. It’s another example of how growing our network creates new opportunities for tourism, business and cultural exchange.”
Flair will operate weekly nonstop service between Vancouver and Guanajuato. Flights are available at www.flyflair.com, with one-way base fares starting at $184 from YVR to BJX and $176 from BJX to YVR.
Flair Airlines bills itself as “Canada’s leading value carrier, on a mission to make air travel affordable, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone.”
The carrier has a growing fleet of fuel-efficient Boeing 737 aircraft, as it connects over 25 cities across Canada, the U.S., Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica.
