Travel trade VIPs experience the real taste of the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands’ Regional Minister of Tourism, Jéssica del Carmen de León Verdugo welcomed a select group of travel trade partners to the Loft on King in Toronto last night for an intimate VIP dinner curated by Chef Manuel Rodriguez Berriel and providing those attending with a real taste of the Canary Islands.
Minister de Leon told the select group that the new Air Canada and Air Transat connections to the Canary Islands has created a lot of excitement, observing that she is certain that Canadians will love the different landscapes and experiences that the Canary Islands offers its visitors.

In fact, that was the theme of the evening, Landscapes of Identity – Canada Meets the Canary Islands, with each of the seven courses – or Landscapes – presented by Chef Manuel Berriel reflecting the gastronomic traditions of a particular Canary Island destination.
The evening also captured the goal of the visit by the Canary Islands’ tourism team which, said Minister de León, was to present to the Canadian travel trade the reasons that their clients will love the Canary Islands.

Observing that the Canary Islands are “unique,” the Minister told Travel Press Today (TPT) that there are three things – and probably many more – that Canadians need to know about her destination.
She pointed to the weather, with temperatures averaging 22 degrees in the winter, making it a perfect getaway for Canadians looking to escape the cold. Safety is another consideration, with Minister de León telling TPT that visitors can walk or drive anywhere they like in complete safety.
And sustainability is another reason for Canadians to love the destination, which is home to four national parks and seven biosphere reserves; in fact, 40% of the Canary Islands’ territory is protected.

Of course, there are many other reasons to recommend the Canary Islands, with de León pointing to gastronomy, the people of the Canary Islands and the hospitality that it offers, all of which demonstrates the “special style of life” that visitors will experience.
And in inviting Canadians to visit, de León promised that the Canary Islands is “a destination that they will always remember.”
