Discover the ‘lesser known’ in 2027 with Intrepid Travel

Intrepid Travel is responding to the growing demand for lesser-known destinations and closer-to-home travel experiences, unveiling more than 80 new trips for 2027 across its Walking & Trekking, Cycling, Wildlife, Explorer, Expedition, Short Breaks, Family and 18-35s categories.
The itineraries are designed around different ages, interests and travel styles, with the trips including over 50 new destinations that provide travellers with new experiences while helping to spread the benefits of tourism across local communities.
For example, Thailand’s Mae Hong Son region has been introduced as part of the new 14-day Hidden Gems of Thailand trip, taking travellers beyond Chiang Mai’s tourism hub to visit rural mountain villages in the country’s lesser-known north.
The 12-day Turkey Black Sea Adventure also features new destinations like Safranbolu, Kastamonu, Samsun and Trabzon, showcasing the distinctive culture and greener landscapes of Turkey’s Black Sea coast.
As well, Intrepid is increasing its focus on destinations closer to home, responding to rising traveller interest in immersive experiences within their own region.
Four new destinations have been introduced across the region, including Costa Rica’s Guanacaste region, Matagalpa in Nicaragua, Canada’s Yukon territory and several new regions across Mexico.
For Intrepid, this comes as Canadian bookings within Canada and across Central America have experienced double digit growth in the past two years.
Five of the new trips also feature Indigenous-led experiences, helping travellers connect more deeply with local cultures and communities within the region
More broadly, the new trips for 2027 cater to a wider range of travellers, with the introduction of 15 new family trips and tailored itineraries for younger, more budget-conscious travellers.
Active and nature-based travel also remain a core focus for Intrepid, with new walking and trekking trips in Spain and Sri Lanka, cycling adventures in New Zealand and Rwanda, and unique wildlife experiences across South Africa, Namibia and Kenya.
Erica Kritikides, General Manager of Experiences at Intrepid Travel, explained: “Travellers are looking for more meaningful ways to explore, whether that’s discovering lesser-known places, travelling close-to-home, getting out in nature or finding experiences that fit different life stages and interests.”
Kritikides continued: “Developed in close collaboration with our local teams, our new trips respond to these evolving preferences, offering immersive experiences for travellers while helping to spread the benefits of responsible tourism more widely across local communities.”
