TAKING THE CHALLENGE

In an effort to promote conservation of the Caribbean’s natural habitat, the president of the Sandals Foundation and CEO of Sandals Resorts International, Adam Stewart, attended the Caribbean Summit of Political and Business Leaders in the British Virgin Islands recently. Hosted by CEO and Founder of the Virgin Group, Richard Branson, British Virgin Islands Premier, Orlando Smith, and Prime Minister of Grenada, Keith Mitchell, delegations from nine Caribbean countries joined representatives from resort companies, cruise lines, the World Bank, United Nations, foundations and environmental groups to discuss their commitment to the Caribbean Challenge, an initiative that calls for protected zones along the region’s coasts by 2020. The Sandals Foundation is embracing the Caribbean Challenge by partnering with several local environmental initiatives, such as providing financial support through tourism for the C-Fish Fund to foster fish sanctuaries in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. Additionally, the Sandals Foundation has committed to providing financial and volunteer support for turtle conservation in Antigua and Jamaica, and continuing support for the Bahamas National Trust Conch Conservation program.
