In celebration of upcoming Earth Month, The Travel Corporation and its non-profit foundation, TreadRight, held a special industry dinner in Toronto’s Distillery District last night (March 19), along with special guest, TreadRight Ambassador Céline Cousteau.

Created in 2008, TreadRight works to ensure the environment and the communities in destinations that The Travel Corporation visits remain vibrant for generations to come. The organization currently has projects ongoing in 35 countries.

“We support communities through environment or development,” said Shannon Guihan, program director, TreadRight. “We must help protect the destinations we go to, it’s a very clear link.”

For example, TreadRight’s Wildlife Initiative is currently focused on helping to put an end to poaching and the illegal trade of rhino horn. Partners include WildAid and Wilderness Foundation SA.

The organization’s Heritage Initiative launched a small business grants program supporting artisans in Europe and South America in partnership with The Alliance for Artisan Enterprise.

“It’s something we’re very passionate about,” commented Jeff Element, president, The Travel Corporation, Canada.
