May 6 marks the fourth year that the travel industry in Ontario will celebrate “Travel Agent Appreciation Day” to recognize the valuable service and consumer protection that agents provide to Ontario travellers.

The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) notes that while the Internet has made it easier for consumers to book their own travel, this can also lead to problems if they don’t have all of the information needed. Ontario travel agents have valuable knowledge that can improve and protect the travel experience.

TICO continues to tell consumers that “Ontario travel agents are FantasTICO!” The awareness campaign promotes the knowledge, integrity and professionalism of TICO-registered agents and the value they provide clients, whether booking a safari in Africa, an all-inclusive in the Caribbean or an Ontario getaway.

Richard Smart, president and CEO of TICO maintains that, “TICO registered travel agents must provide comprehensive information to their clients that safe-guards their travel plans, but what really impresses me is the personal and professional commitment these agents have to their clients. I hear stories every day of how agents go above and beyond to help and protect their clients.”

“Our government is committed to protecting Ontarians, and our province has the most comprehensive consumer protection for travellers in the country,” said David Orazietti, minister of Government and Consumer Services. “These protections are supported by our provincial travel industry, which is committed to the highest standards of service and professionalism.”

Ontario consumers have many options when it comes to booking travel, but Ontario offers powerful protections for those that book with a TICO registered travel agent. Beyond that protection is the unique knowledge and advice that a travel agent can provide. And should a traveller experience problems, they are not alone if they booked through a travel agent.
