A Gala Of A Night For Jamaica

Canadian travel advisors made it Jamaica again at the 2022 Agents’ Choice Awards Gala at Toronto’s Eglinton Grand last week (June 23).

The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) earned two awards as Favourite Tourist Board – Caribbean and Favourite Destination – Wedding, Honeymoon, Romance Destination during an evening of celebration.

As well, the JTB’s Business Development Manager for Western Canada, Emma Madsen received a Favourite Supplier Representatives award for her excellent, continued efforts and strong agent support throughout the pandemic.

Angella Bennett, Regional Director, Jamaica Tourist Board Canada, said: “We are truly honoured by the Agents’ Choice Awards we have received this year and want to thank each and every agent who voted for the Jamaica Tourist Board.”

Bennett continued: “These awards are a true testament to the hard work and creativity of my Canadian team, and I couldn’t be more proud of them for continually going above and beyond to support Canadian agents, particularly throughout these past two years.”

And she added: “The pandemic could not keep us from fostering our strong bonds within the Canadian travel community. For example, we couldn’t meet in person, so we brought the joy of Jamaica to agents’ home computers with our weekly Irie Hour sessions.”

The JTB’s Deputy Director of Tourism – The Americas, Donnie Dawson was on hand for the Gala, telling the audience of some of Canada’s top travel executives that travel advisors are key to Jamaica’s success.
In fact, Dawson pointed out that 70% of Jamaica’s business comes through the travel agency distribution network and staying engaged with retailers during the pandemic was critical to the island’s continued success.
