A Little Elegance From RIU
RIU Hotels & Resorts reports its Riu Palace Tropical Bay in Negril, Jamaica is fully refurbished following an extensive renovation.
The chain’s first hotel in Jamaica when it opened in 2001 now offers completely updated facilities, but maintains the Riu Palace range’s “characteristic elegance and sophistication and the RIU chain’s exclusive 24-hour all-inclusive service.”
The bond between RIU Hotels and Jamaica was forged in the late 1990s, when the chain became interested in the destination after its representatives’ visited the island. Jamaica is now one of its main destinations in the Caribbean, with six hotels.
Changes to the hotel are particularly noticeable in the lobby, which has gained light, thanks to large windows, and also a sense of space, due to radical changes to the use of colours, the entry of natural light and the use of a simpler, more modern style.
It also now has large works of art and murals. Added to the white of the marble floor, the furniture’s shades of blue perfectly complement the beige columns.
Riu Palace Tropical Bay now has 452 rooms, whose new style combines the classic sophistication of the Riu Palace range with furniture with clean lines and pale hues, and blue and turquoise accents. In addition, all bathtubs have been replaced with walk-in style showers.
Another new feature is the RiuLand kids’ club in the children’s area. This area features a children’s pool, which is bigger than the previous one, and a playground.
The hotel also has three large outdoor pools, one of which has a swim-up bar, as well as a fully-equipped and refurbished gym and a renovated spa zone.
Restaurants have been refurbished with a contemporary design: the main restaurant Negril will continue to offer buffets and live cooking; fusion cooking dishes will be served in Krystal; Rimini will prepare a buffet of Italian specialities; Japanese cuisine will be available from Hakuchi; and the poolside restaurant will serve the classic RIU Steakhouse dishes for dinner.
Bars have all been completely renovated and a 24-hour service is available in the lobby bar and the lounge bar. Furthermore, the hotel has added the ice-cream and coffee bar Capuchino.
