Air Canada kicked off the Vancouver Christmas season with a festive get-together at the Waterview event venue on False Creek late last week and brought good tidings of service expansions.

Air Canada VP of global sales Duncan Bureau hosted the proceedings, and told invited tour operators, travel agents and partners that more international flights by the airline were scheduled for Vancouver in 2017.

Upcoming for YVR by AC next year will be flights to Dallas, Taipei, Nagoya, Frankfurt and London Gatwick.

Bureau reviewed the expansionary history of 2016, saying that the airline added eight new city partners to the YVR roster during this year.

He also noted that half the passengers that flew out of YVR were on Air Canada flights.

Executive staff from YVR were also on hand, and they marked their own pre-Christmas celebrations with record-setting passenger numbers.

From January to October this year, there was a 9.5% increase in the number of passengers (to 18.8 million) who passed through the airport. YVR was on track to reach 22 million by the end of this year, they said.
