UPDATED ADVISORY: WestJet continuing to cancel flights across its network

UPDATE: WestJet is advising that it has continued to cancel flights today (Sat., Aug. 1, 2026) and advised the following network-wide cancellations:

Saturday, Aug. 1 as of 11 a.m. MT – 86 cancellations

Saturday, Aug. 1 as of 9 a.m. MT – 32 cancellations

Friday, July 31 as of 9 p.m. MT – 80 cancellations

WestJet also said that: “This action is in response to the union’s notice to strike and the inability to reach an agreement. WestJet’s most recent proposal was designed to be a transformative, industry-leading agreement for WestJet’s Cabin Crew, and directly addressed the key issues the union identified as its priorities.”

Earlier today, the airline issued the update:

In an update to its earlier advisory (July 31), WestJet said that it has now begun to initiate “an organized take-down of its network and will start issuing flight cancellations to guests.”

On Aug. 1, 2026, the carrier said it will cancel 81 flights, explaining that: “This action is in response to the union’s notice to strike and the inability to reach an agreement,” and continuing: “WestJet’s most recent proposal was designed to be a transformative, industry-leading agreement for WestJet’s Cabin Crew, and directly addressed the key issues the union identified as its priorities.”

In its updated advisory, it said that: “To ensure the integrity of WestJet’s network, and to minimize the risk of stranding guests and aircraft, the airline has started to issue cancellations and reduce flying. These actions ensure the airline has complete control of its operations and can communicate with guests and crew to minimize people being stranded.”

And it concludes: “WestJet remains at the table and committed to achieving a negotiated tentative agreement that recognizes the important contributions and professionalism of WestJet’s Cabin Crew.”
