Another First For Sunwing

Sunwing is adding flights to Daytona Beach, Florida from Toronto for the first time this winter.

It will be operating twice weekly seasonal flights – on Mondays and Thursdays – beginning Jan. 28, 2019.

Daytona Beach caters to all types of travellers. Racing fans can visit the Daytona International Speedway to see some of the best drivers in the world compete. While those seeking some peace and quiet can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk and pier or the renowned Daytona Beach – a 37km stretch of sand that includes some stretches vacationers can drive on.

As well, there are plenty of options for shopping to take advantage of and avid golfers can head to one of the many top-rated courses in the area for some tee-off time.

Reg Mendes, vice-president of USA and Cruises, explained that the move to expand services to Florida this coming winter was a result of consumer demand.

“Our flight services to Florida have been consistently well received so we’re delighted to be able to add this popular destination. Daytona Beach is a great option for those seeking anything from excellent dining and shopping to beach escapes.”

Rick Karl, airport director for Daytona Beach International Airport, also commented on the news, noting that: “Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) is thrilled to welcome Sunwing to our community. With non-stop flights to and from Toronto, the new air service will provide improved access to our community’s top international travel market and bring international airline service to DAB for the first time in over twenty years. We look forward to growing our partnership for years to come.”

While Lori Campbell Baker, executive director for the Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, said: “What an exciting opportunity to add Sunwing service to Daytona Beach’s many great offerings. Toronto has long been a strong market for this destination and surrounding communities, and Daytona Beach International Airport is definitely the favourite for our visitors. We’ve been so fortunate to have worked closely with the Sunwing team over the past several years, and we’re all looking forward to a highly successful and long-lasting partnership.”

Greater Toronto Airports Authority vice-president and chief strategy officer, Kim Stangeby commented: “At Toronto Pearson, we’re excited to offer another convenient, direct route to warmer climates with the new Sunwing service to Daytona Beach International. Our airport continues to grow as our region does, and we’re pleased to provide this option to those from the Toronto area as well as our increasing number of passengers connecting from across Canada.”
