Royal Caribbean International’s Anthem of the Seas was officially introduced Monday (April 20) during a naming ceremony in Southampton, U.K. led by Godmother, British travel agent Emma Wilby, who took centre stage during the ceremony with Welsh choir Only Boys Aloud to deliver the performance of her life.

Welby was selected for the honour in a singing competition for travel agents.

Anthem of the Seas spans 18 decks, encompasses 167,800 gross registered tons, carries 4,180 guests at double occupancy and features 2,090 staterooms. The ship features Royal Caribbean’s latest adventures at sea, including the RipCord by iFLY, an onboard skydiving experience, and North Star, a glass observation capsule that takes guests more than 90 metres above the ocean.

Another unique feature on Anthem includes SeaPlex, the largest indoor active space at sea complete with bumper cars, a circus school, roller skating and more. The Royal Theater is home to the ship’s two main shows, “We Will Rock You” and “The Gift.”

The onboard dining experience includes a selection of 18 restaurant concepts, including five complimentary main dining restaurants, along with the opportunity to choose between Dynamic Dining Choice, which allows guests to decide when, where, and with whom to dine each evening, and Dynamic Dining Classic, which is designed for those who prefer a more traditional experience. In addition, Anthem features a lineup of specialty dining restaurants, as well as partnerships with world-renowned chefs such as Jamie Oliver, Michael Schwartz and Devin Alexander.

The ship also features the latest in technology, from ultra-fast Wi-Fi and RFID technology to virtual views from interior staterooms and robots that can mix up a cocktail in the Bionic Bar.

Anthem of the Seas will sail its inaugural spring and summer season from Southampton – offering Europe and Mediterranean itineraries – before departing for New York and its new homeport of Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, N.J., sailing to the Caribbean.
