Around the World and Home for Dessert

Toronto’s Thompson Hotel played host to a unique event Tuesday evening as Young SKAL members hosted their colleagues to a glamorous round-the-world trip.

With seven tables set up – one for each continent – guests were invited to rotate from station to station, answering ice-breaker questions provided by G Adventures at each and stamping their passports for an evening of fun.

The event coincided with the launch of SKAL Toronto’s Social Media Initiative, with their skalYTO Instagram and Facebook pages aiming to introduce the executive networking organization to the travel industry’s growing segment of young professionals.

“Millennials currently make up 36% of the job market. By 2020, that number is expected to grow to 46%. Initiatives like the Baxter Student Ambassador Program’s collaboration with Young SKAL have opened the door to millennials interested in pursuing a career in Canada’s growing tourism and hospitality industry, ensuring they have more opportunities for engagement than ever before,” says Tabatha Bradley, social media committee chair.

“Young SKAL provides the opportunity for youth to develop their professional career through exploring an International network of like-minded individuals,” adds Audrius Valiulis (pictured), Young SKAL committee chair member. “The true value of Young SKAL is building authentic relationships with key stakeholders in the hospitality, travel and tourism industry; the opportunity to advance one’s career is endless.”

As industry executives shared travel anecdotes and laughs with their millennial cohorts over dessert, it’s plain to see that, for SKAL, the future indeed seems full of promise.
