Back From Oberammergau

Collette reports that the first departure from the 2022 Oberammergau Passion Play has returned. The tiny town Bavarian hamlet of Oberammergau is hosting thousands of visitors to showcase the must-see epic Passion Play, depicting the life and death of Jesus Christ.

Guests set out on a cultural experience in the Imperial Cities of Central Europe featuring traditional entertainment and the epic Oberammergau Passion Play.

While on tour, guests experienced a city tour of Budapest features the Matthias Church, where many kings have had their coronations. They travelled back in time with a visit to a 14th-century castle, where knights with colorful costumes and authentic weaponry recreate the days of chivalry.

The tour concluded with the memorable and moving performance of the Oberammergau Passion Play; the origins of this historic event date back to 1634, and occurs once every 10 years.

The Play was previously cancelled in 2020 due to Covid-19. Collette is currently offering 7 itineraries featuring the Oberammergau Passion Play.

Jaclyn Leibl-Cote, President of Collette, said: “Our travellers have been waiting for more than a decade to see the esteemed Passion Play. As travel continues to rebound, guests will have the opportunity to take advantage of many special events on tour that we’re offering.”
