Bahia Principe Celebrates Whale Watching Season

Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, which has all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and Spain, is celebrating the arrival of humpback whales to the crystalline waters of Samana, Dominican Republic, where the brand is home to four properties.

Nestled between jungle and the Caribbean Sea, the region is officially welcoming humpback whale season and the brand’s whale watching opportunities that give travellers nature-driven, eco-friendly experiences.

Every year, approximately 3,000 40-ton whales migrate from the cold waters of the north to mate in the warm waters of Samana. Travellers and locals joined in the annual Whale Festival celebration that marks the start of whale season and aims to educate travellers on the mammals and the environment that makes up Samana. The Bahia Principe Village hosted the March 7-9 event, which featured exhibitors, including local artists, and will host educational presentations and film screenings on humpback whales and learning activities on marine animals and conservation for kids.

“The arrival of the humpback whales is one of the most celebrated times of year in Samana,” said Antonia del Toro, director of corporate social responsibility at Grupo Piñero. “This unique spectacle of indescribable beauty is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our guests. Samaná is an important community for us and collaborating with them to care for, preserve and build awareness of their culture and their natural spectacles is of high priority for our brand.”

Bahia Principe’s four properties in the region can be used to explore the peninsula and encounter the majestic animals. For those who seek exclusivity and tranquility, Luxury Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado (pictured) is the only hotel located on the idyllic island of Cayo Levantado. A journey to this property begins with a ferry ride from a private Bahia Principe dock in town.

Those looking for a unique stay can head to Luxury Bahia Principe Samana, a boutique property ranked by TripAdvisor as the No. 3 top all-inclusive in the Caribbean for 2018, due to its special charm and personalized service.

Travellers seeking to explore and discover everything that Samana and the Dominican Republic have to offer can choose Grand Bahia Principe Cayacoa, located in an authentic Dominican village and overlooking the region’s spectacular cays or Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo, situated on one of the country’s most popular beaches, Las Terrenas.
